Embroidered Uniform Guard (錦衣衛)
Hyun-Chun Daoist and I did not enter the village gate, but instead entered the abandoned building at the back of the village. He went into more and stood in front of a well. When he opened the lid of the well, there was a ladder going downward. Certainly, it was a man-made place, so I looked at him.
“What about this?”
“I suppose that a man of the noble blood lived in this village, and in case of emergency he intended to escape by using the underground passage. It was a secret passage that I found by chance while I was monitoring the movements of the village.”
“Where is the end of this underground passage?”
“There is a mansion of some sort; of course, it is now a den of fanatics.”
I could imagine what would have happened to the noble family that created the underground passage. He was probably attacked and killed by fanatics, before he could use the underground passage. Anyway, Hyun-Chun Daoist and I went down and started walking with a torch that was oiled with a pike, and the underground passage was about three kilometers long, and after a while I saw a ladder climbing.
As we climbed through the ladder, we saw the kitchen which was in a desolate ruin.
‘It has a lot of bloodshed.’
It was a large kitchen outside the mansion, and the blood and flesh that hang horribly all over the place gave us an idea of what kind of killing happened here. I looked for something valuable, but there was a new statue made of gold, and I slipped it into my bag.
“It’s not the time to pack something like that. Hurry up before fanatics find out.”
“Wouldn’t it be all right if we knocked out one or two of the fanatics?”
“The power of the monster is too strong to take such a risk. We shouldn’t be caught until we have carried out the plan.”
He and I came out of the kitchen looking around with Qi sense. There were several fanatics in the mansion and he killed them. Some of their heads were blown to death. It was obviously the traces of the martial arts of Wudang Sect. When I looked at him, he cleared his throat.
“There were too many fanatics here, and I had to get rid of them to be less annoying to use this passage again.”
“I didn’t say anything.”
As soon as he saw two fanatics blocking the passage, he blew their heads with an empty palm at a distance from (隔空掌) without a question. There was no hesitation, and he seemed to determine that there was no one who was perfectly fine in this village. He was also very strong, as he blew the heads off without a trace with Palm Power from far away.
“Let’s get out of here. The smell of blood is so disgusting here.”
On the way out of the mansion, two or three people who appeared to be fanatical were wandering around with ploughs and big knives. Although I hid myself quickly before they turned around, my heart was pounding when I saw them.
‘What are they? Why are they carrying a human head?’
I could see what the implications of the madness were. One was holding a girl’s head in his heart, and the other was hanging on the waist, the head of a middle-aged man who was scared to death. It was a sight that could not be imagined in normal human beings, or in the ethics of the outside world.
Every time they walked, blood dripped from the heads. The faces of fanatics searching for a game with blank expression were even gruesome. I was going to get a little bit of vomit, but that was all. I’ve been through quite a bit of trouble anyway, so I was not going to be distracted by this. As I watched fanatics closely, said Hyun-Chun Daoist.
“They are rational, but they are completely brainwashed and they don’t communicate each other. Only they are moving according to the orders to kill outsiders. If you encounter them, get rid of them without hesitation.”
“Moreover, they don’t feel any pain, so it’s better to blow their limbs and heads first.”
I wore a look of dismay. It’s because I made myself quite calm when he said, “Blow their limbs,” and “Blow their heads.” But his words were sincere, and I began to understand that this place was the hell itself.
It was a rather busy town with lots of alleys between buildings, and it was good to move quickly and infiltrate, avoiding fanatics. There were some fanatics who were eating human flesh from time to time between the buildings, but I quickly stomped on their heads and exploded them.
Hyun-Chun Daoist said that if a fanatic found the enemy, he or she would scream a bizarre sound. So, I swung my sword and split their heads into two or three pieces.
The village was stained with blood.
“It’s pretty hard.”
Complaining about it, I hid on the second floor of a bookstore, where I did not have to worry about fanatic’s attention for a while. Following me, Hyun-Chun Daoist came into the bookstore and took out a gourd bottle from his arms and offered it to me.
“It is water of dew, and drink a little if you feel tired. It restores the mind.”
“It’s okay. Rather, I will see the altar now.”
The altar was about four hundred meters away from the bookstore where we were hiding.
In the center of the village was a large stone-shaped square, but just below it, there was an altar made for human sacrifice. That was the place where the great sorcerer with a flute appeared.
‘The strength of fanatics is incredible. No matter how much I am careful, my limbs may be torn.’
Fanatics didn’t play martial arts very well, but they just screamed, swinging their arms, legs, and weapons at us, but they were extremely strong. When I blew a fanatic’s head, I had a chance to grab his arm for a moment, but I had to tighten my muscles a little even though I was pulling up my Internal Energy.
Every fanatic has a great power! With that power, it is not a matter of tearing the human body alive. That’s why even a high-class expert should not allow them approach.
Hyun-Chun Daoist looked at the altar with sharp eyes and said, “Keep in mind. If a monster appears, don’t think about fighting, and just run away. It’s not something which humans can deal with.”
“I’m going to do that.”
I sat back against the wall, rested, and said,
“What would you do if you failed to kill the great sorcerer today?”
“Well … I’ll run away too, but then I’ll leave it entirely to the government office. If I mobilize all my influence, then the government army will move anyway.”
“Why didn’t you wait for it from the beginning? Why are you making such a risky attempt?”
Hyun-Chun Daoist said bitterly.
“If the government forces are dispatched, we will be able to hunt this village down. But no one in the village will survive.”
“Do you think that if you kill only the great sorcerer with a flute, the people of this town will return to normal from the fanatics?”
“Yes, they are victims. It is unfortunate that they are caught in this nightmare, and they don’t deserve to die. We must save the lives as much as we can.”
I was silent.
I witnessed firsthand the madness of this village. They had already done a lot of human offerings, and the people had killed their children, killed their brothers, and eaten their lovers. If the fanatics were released from the domination of the great sorcerer, would they be able to live a normal life in the future?
Rather, living itself might be a terrible hell, and perhaps the present, which was being ruled without will, would be happier.
But I didn’t bother telling Hyun-Chun Daoist of that idea. Now, it was about to be a risky plan, whether to put all our efforts into it or not. Distracting our attention by arguing unnecessarily would not help.
Hyun-Chun Daoist said.
“The sun is rising in the sky soon.”
“Why don’t we go closer?”
“Hmm … Get close to ninety meters from the altar.”
Hyun-Chun Daoist and I quickly moved from the pavilion to the pavilion, and as we came deeper into the village, it became more convenient to enter the area as the number of pavilions increased. Of course, fanatics came out of anywhere to swing an ax or a knife, but we could not have come this far if we had been attacked like that. We moved forward, dominating fanatics one by one.
When we approached ninety meters, we could observe the altar clearly from the pavilion. But, as I saw the shape of the altar, I frowned at it.
“That’s horrible. It’s completely red.”
Hyun-Chun Daoist shook his head again. The large altar, which was originally made of white marble, was red because of the countless human offerings made. The crowd of fanatics were wandering about with dull eyes all over the altar, and the numbers were increasing. By probably noon, the fanatics who had been scattered around, would gather to the center.
I was worried.
“I wish I could get a little closer.”
“I’m afraid it’s too much.”
There were so many fanatics, and if we took even one more step outside this building, there would be no room at all. When the plan began, we must try to assassinate the great sorcerer from this location.
It was then.
A strange sound rang out. At the same time, all eyes of the crowd that was swarming around the village square were all focused in one place. It was the altar in the very center that their eyes pointed to. Hundreds of thousands of people gathered in the crowd, and the target finally appeared.
The great sorcerer with a flute!
He came up from behind and tramped up the altar, covering his entire body with brown clothes. The clothes were covering the top of his face and almost all his limbs, so I couldn’t identify the gender. He took out a black flute from his arms and started playing it.
I felt the tone of the flute was queer. It was not a particular tone, but a very thin sound, as if there were a bit of pain in the ear. Using this sound wave, he controlled humans as fanatics.
Of course, I felt the impact to my Internal Energy, but it was just an unpleasant level to me now. When I scratched my ears, Hyun-Chun Daoist said quietly.
“It is Sound Qigong (音功) that subdues the soul. If you stimulate your Internal Energy, you won’t be charmed by the sorcery.”
“The time will come soon when he pulls out a knife to offer human sacrifice, then we will move.”
The contradiction is that the moment of pulling a knife is weaker than when the great sorcerer plays the flute.
But we should move then.
It’s because of the experience of Hyun-Chun Daoist, that while the great sorcerer was playing the flute, the fanatics gathered in the square became more fierce and quick. The sound of the flute proved to be a powerful weapon that controlled the fanatics, while also providing a more agile and speedy reinforcement.
Hyun-Chun Daoist and I put a great deal of concentration into his every move, opening our eyes wide as possible.
After a while, some of the fanatics came up on the altar with their sacrifices, and the sacrifices were laid there like a dead fish. The great sorcerer stopped playing the flute to see if it was ready. Then he slowly took the dagger out of his arms and started approaching the sacrifices.
Hyun-Chun Daoist and I ran down as if we were falling from the pavilion. Lightness Skill broke the wind cheerfully and I leaped into the air with a spring-like elasticity. I landed on the ground before Hyun-Chun Daoist, and at that moment I stepped Vibration Foot (振脚) with all my Internal Energy in.
Boom boom boom!
My Vibration Foot struck the ground, and suddenly the ground under my feet collapsed, and the fanatics around me were swept away by the shock waves of Vibration Foot. Once the fanatics started to fall, the tide went on as they gathered around. The human beings fallen like the ebb tide came to my eyes. With Vibration Foot, about fifty people had been blown up at once, so the road to the altar was opened in no time.
Hyun-Chun Daoist sent me a Sound Transmission.
[Thank you! I’ll cut his head off for sure!]
Hyun-Chun Daoist seemed to appreciate me sincerely. It would be so dangerous to break through this group of fanatics, even if the martial arts of Hyun-Chun Daoist were the Peak-class. He had a lot of room to spare because of my Vibration Foot with the powerful Internal Energy.
Crossing Clouds Through (濟雲從), one of the most excellent Lightness Skills of Hyun-Chun Daoist, was performed forward as if slipping with the maximum achievement. It took three seconds for Hyun-Chun Daoist to narrow down ninety meters and stand in front of the great sorcerer, and the great sorcerer just stopped his dagger and was looking back.
At the same time, Mysterious Sky Sword Qi (玄天劍氣), the strongest martial arts of Wudang Sect, was fired on the back of the great sorcerer like a flashlight.
I waved my hand around and blew ten fanatics away with Lightning Cloud Palm (雷雲掌), but when I checked the Mysterious Sky Sword Qi, I opened my eyes.
It was swaying.
It was floating in a blue light.
Sword inflammation (劍炎)!
Hyun-Chun Daoist, over the simple entry to the Peak-class, was also an expert of Sword inflammation that allowed Sword Qi (劍氣) to rise like a flame.
What a surprise!
Even if the great sorcerer were the chief elder of Iron Blood Sect, he would not be able to avoid fatal injuries in that state. It was when I felt so confident of winning so easily.
I saw an incredible sight at the moment. Suddenly, two men in black clothes appeared next to the great sorcerer, and swung the sword to block Mysterious Sky Sword Qi of Hyun-Chun Daoist.
However, as if it were quite an unexpected raid, both two in black clothes stepped back with a blood stream from their mouths. After three steps back were they able to control their bodies, and one of them had already put the great sorcerer behind him.
Hyun-Chun Daoist was astonished since only two people blocked his sudden attack. It meant that the two in black clothes had far exceeded the First-class. In addition, the only way they stopped the Sword inflammation was the Joint-strike Technique (合擊術).
Joint-strike technique is the martial arts which deals with an expert efficiently who is much stronger, combining the Internal Energy and capabilities of two or more people! The secret martial arts are transferred to a limited number of people in the famous clan of Moorim.
Standing on the right, the black-clothed man wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and said. Judging from the nosebleeds, the personal difference seemed to be quite different from Hyun-Chun Daoist.
“Here you are, Hyun-Chun Daoist. We were in a hurry to be dispatched, so we wondered what was going on. We did not expect there would be a Peak-class expert in the top ten of Wudang Sect.”
“Who are you?”
The answer to that question was given from the man on the left.
“I regret to see you in this way, but you can never live here.”
And the fanatics, who I was blowing off in confusion, started to break into a fit of madness. The effect of the flute stopped working like a broken doll, but the great sorcerer hidden behind the black-clothed man started playing again. If this were the case, we must fight with the more enhanced fanatics to death.
And a thousand nutcases!
‘Oh my god!’
I cried out to myself. Of course, I would not be easily caught by the mad, but the problem was ahead.
Also, with a strange sound made by an unknown language, a monster of an indeterminate form emerged.
Not only the two men who stopped Hyun-Chun Daoist, but also the creepy monster began to approach. The monster was a liquid-like monster with six meters’ body, but it had hundreds of eyes and tentacles all over it, making them heinous. The dark energy was released as it bulged.
“Damn it! Let’s go!”
I screamed at Hyun-Chun Daoist. He ran from the very place and came toward me as if it were unthinkable. The black-clothed man then became cynical.
“We knew it was Hyun-Chun Daoist. Do you think only two of us came here?”
When Hyun-Chun Daoist and I jumped to the high pavilion and tried to get ready, there were black-clothed men who suddenly appeared face to face and wielded their swords. The number was eight in total, including some with a strange shaped weapon (奇門兵器).
I could see it from their posture.
The martial artists trained as an elite for a long time!
Hyun-Chun Daoist burst into a rage.
“You evil bastards!”
At the same time, the sword inflammation of Hyun-Chun Daoist was sprayed into the air. The Sword Qi with a visible form was shot like a gust of wind, and two of them were blown off,
The chest of one of them was fallen by one Palm Power of Hyun-Chun Daoist.
It was Hyun-Chun Daoist who killed three people in an instant, but the next moment, three people united, and he could not move forward. Surprisingly, they were only three, fighting on a par with Hyun-Chun Daoist.
It was so shocking that I was fascinated.
‘What … what was it? Where did those guys come from?’
It was a real surprise. One of the three black-clothed men who dealt with Hyun-Chun Daoist was using Sword Qi too.
A Peak-class expert, who has been always on the right track in Moorim, was attacking Hyun-Chun Daoist with other First-class martial artists.
“We’ll kill you.”
Two black-clothed men came up and besieged me, and I was not sure how good the opponent was, but I stared at them fiercely and grabbed my sword firmly. One of them threw an iron-coiled sword at my head, but I pulled out a dagger in my arms and made the chain to a standstill.
“Do I look like a pushover?”
When he was in a panic, I ran and smashed another man’s chest with my front foot. I then made a dash at the man of the iron-coiled sword and blew the sword. Frankly, I worried about what if this attack didn’t work.
But my concern was tilted. The man was about to attack me in front, but suddenly he was struck by Lightning Spirit Qi (雷靈之氣) on the blade. The upper body flew nearly two meters, and the scream of death burst out. He looked like a First-class expert, but he could not even receive my attack in front.
One for each!
When I handled two people, the three people who were dealing with Hyun-Chun Daoist became embarrassed.
“Who is that?”
I knew that it was not the time to boast in this place. I could lose the opportunity to escape while trying to make myself look like a complete mess. So, I ran into them like a wolf without saying a word and struck them in the dust.
“Fuck you, you bastards!”
There was a steady bump of iron. Hyun-Chun Daoist and I faced three men, but the balance of power was brought over here. In addition, the black-clothed men seemed to be embarrassed by the unexpected situation and could not show their ability.
While looking for the opportunity, Hyun-Chun Daoist immediately blew Sword Inflammation on the weakest and instantly executed him.
“Damn it …”
Then, the Peak-class expert ran to the bottom of the pavilion with his men and retreated, as if he thought he could not deal with us.
Thump thump …
Then the monsters started to move around and come to us, whether they recognized us. The sight of hundreds of eyes and tentacles rolling around was even frightening. Said Hyun-Chun Daoist urgently.
“They are suddenly speeding up! Run away now!”
I screamed my way out of the pavilion with Hyun-Chun Daoist. At the same time, the six-story pavilion collapsed under the head bump of a monster. On account of the destructive winds, Hyun-Chun Daoist stepped in the air again, reaching out to me.
Thump thump thump …
Hyun-Chun Daoist and I heard three monsters chasing us, and the monsters crushed all humans and buildings together. The fanatics who wandered around the place were trampled on by the monsters. Those were real destroyers.
“Huck huck huck…!”
I felt a sickening pang in my own horrifying escape. I had a bad feeling about it from the beginning, but it wouldn’t be twisted like this! And it was understandable that Hyun-Chun Daoist said that we could not deal with the monsters with the human power.
Once again, a large mansion collapsed after the head butt of the monster. A great dusty wind enveloped the village.
I let go of my own words.
My last memory was that my entire body had been ripped away by the head butt of the monster.
The pain vanished so quickly that I could no longer feel it.
That was my fourth death.
